SEATTLE CHILDREN’S CARE NETWORK EARNS
URAC ACCREDITATION IN CLINICAL INTEGRATION
1st network on West Coast to demonstrate superior commitment to integrated, quality care
[Seattle, WA] – Seattle Children’s Care Network (SCCN) is proud to announce that it has earned URAC accreditation in Clinical Integration. This achievement marks only the second such designation in the US for a pediatric system of care. Adding adults to the mix, only six other networks nationwide have achieved this milestone. The initial accreditation period is three years.
Dr. Sandy Melzer is Executive Vice President of Networks and Population Health at Seattle Children’s. He led the initial development of SCCN in 2014 to pursue the “Triple Aim” of enhancing patient outcomes, controlling costs and improving the patient experience.
“The URAC certification is an important validation of all the work that we’ve done to integrate our hospital specialists and primary care physicians to help us become the most valued manager of pediatric lives in the Pacific Northwest,” said Melzer. “We are pleased that the Seattle Children’s Care Network now is recognized as having the proper infrastructure to support a wider range of value-based arrangements focused on accomplishing the Triple Aim.”
URAC is the independent leader in promoting healthcare quality through accreditation, certification and measurement. To demonstrate that it met all 33 of URAC’s detailed clinical integration standards, Seattle Children’s Care Network submitted more than 1,000 pages of heavily annotated documentation and hosted an onsite review.
“Achieving URAC accreditation as a clinically integrated network is a significant milestone for our team,” said Ginger Hines, Senior Director of Operations. “The process itself helped speed and standardize our work. We are thankful to both our team members—and also our community physicians and their staff who serve on our board and committees. Their dedication to clinical integration is evident.”
Seattle Children’s Care Network is a pediatric system of care made up of Seattle Children’s Hospital, 600 specialists in the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) and 15 primary care practices comprising nearly 200 pediatricians and nurse practitioners. These member organizations share a common commitment to advance quality, reduce cost and improve patient experience across the care continuum. Providers at SCCN practices span the Puget Sound from Skagit in the north to Olympia in the south, supporting the health of more than 60,000 children in SCCN’s value-based care contracts.
URAC leadership saluted SCCN’s achievement: “Change is inevitable and unavoidable in the delivery of healthcare in America, and Seattle Children’s Care Network now possesses an advantage by having accredited its operations through URAC,” said URAC President and CEO Kylanne Green. “SCCN is embracing population health and value-based goals of new payment models. Its accreditation from URAC will help them improve their processes while aligning them with industry best practices and regulations.”
